ABSTRACT
One of the key features of social life in the United States is the stratification of the population into different social classes. Social class includes both material resources like money and nonmaterial resources such as education or power. This chapter first discusses the complex nature of social class in the United States and around the world and then illustrates how it impacts disaster vulnerability.
