ABSTRACT

A great variety of organic and synthetic materials can be employed as mulch. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, and each has a different impact on the cropping environment.

Investigation 5: Temperature (Modifying the Temperature Microclimate) Investigation 8: Soil (Management of Soil Organic Matter) Investigation 9: Water in the Soil (Managing Evapotranspiration) Investigation 11: Biotic Factors (Organic Mulches Derived from Crops)

Three types of mulch are applied to different areas of an existing agroecosystem, and several weeks later, the soil temperatures, soil moisture levels, and weed growth in each mulched area, and in an unmulched one, are measured and compared.
