ABSTRACT

Avicenna was probably the rst to refer to a link between male obesity and male infertility in his “The Canon of Medicine” (Ibn Sina’s Al-Qānūn fī al-ţibb, late 10th century). However, this association was largely ignored until the recent “epidemic” of obesity worldwide. The number of studies evaluating the impact of obesity on male fertility has since then multiplied, although they are still a source of controversy.
