ABSTRACT

A recent YouGov survey – released to mark Dementia Awareness Week for May 2013 – found that 45% of people agreed that they would fi nd it diffi cult to tell their families if they thought they had dementia (quoted on the Department of Health ‘Dementia Challenge’ webpage, ‘About dementia’) Those aged 55 and over are more likely to fi nd this diffi cult (50%). Fifty-six per cent of people agreed they would fi nd it diffi cult to broach the subject of dementia with someone they knew if they were worried they were developing the condition. Those aged between 18 and 24 were most likely to agree they would fi nd this diffi cult (64%) followed closely by those aged 55 and over (60%).
