ABSTRACT
After WW1 he qualified in gunnery, and served with the RAN for two years, and in the Mediterranean Fleet and on the China Station. After three years in the Admiralty, 1929-33, he had a series of destroyer commands, and was Flag Captain in the 3rd Cruiser Squadron, protecting British and neutral trade during the Spanish Civil War.
