ABSTRACT

In order to do this, a short explication of the main critiques of the model will first be presented. Then, through drawing out some of the problems and conclusions which are common to all of the case studies presented in the book, these critiques will be related to the utility and shortcomings of both the 'transfer of community' and the 'breakdown of community' approaches which were presented earlier. Finally a few comparative topics will be examined through contrasting Hieidaira and Yamanaka with other local communities both in Japan and in other advanced industrial societies.
