ABSTRACT

The teacher was doing the book-cover lesson. You know it well; you did it at school; I have taught it twenty times. He had prepared it carefully: he had shown them the particular bit of origami that transforms a piece of A4 into something unconvincingly resembling a book jacket; he had made an elaborate diagram on the board labelling the components such as plot blurb, author’s biography, picture. Year 8 were making book covers for the class reader, The Ghost of Thomas Kempe.
