ABSTRACT
The aesthetic, historical, philosophical, and political crises of a postmodern age are exquisitely rendered and further exacerbated in Christoph Ransmayr's novels. His works are deeply postmodern, with his early days as a student of philosophy at the University of Vienna, where he studied the social and aesthetic theories of the Frankfurt School, serving as the rich intellectual mise en scene of his literary style.
