ABSTRACT
The Governor of the Bank came in yesterday and produced a dirty linen bag dated Sept. 28, 1872, and containing 1,000 sovereigns.
It was one of the original bags sent in payment of the original [French] indemnity, had lain in Spandau ever since, and had just been exported to us through Copenhagen.
