ABSTRACT
The main aim of this paper is to show that a more or less Fregean conception of sense is implicitly involved in the supposition that people are sometimes fully justified in engaging in deductive reasoning or in affirming truths of logic. Sense, as envisaged here, attaches to tokens of expressions, and sameness of sense arises when there is an immediate guarantee of sameness of reference.1
