Conclusion and implications

This study has sought to explore and explain the key components and characteristics of the emergence of cross-border microregionalism between Guangdong (in southern China), Taiwan and Japan with particular reference to the role of networks of multilevel governance linking Chinese local governments and foreign firms. The electronics industry has been taken as a specific illustrative example of these trends.
