ABSTRACT
We debated for some time about where in our overall text to place chapters devoted specifically to the analysis and interpretation of data. It should be clear by now that we believe qualitative research is a deeply interpretive endeavor and that analytical processes are at work in every step of the crafting of the document. The forms of writing described in Chapter 3, even as they help move those processes forward, are also products of analysis and interpretation. There are times, however, when we work quite specifically at analysis, beginning with the moments when we first begin to reread and code our data. It is with these overtly analytical acts that this chapter is concerned.
