ABSTRACT

This edited volume focuses on trust and confidence in government and public services. In this final chapter, we review some of the key themes emerging from the authors’ contributions against three of the questions posed in the introduction. First, we asked, ‘What is trust in government and public services?’ which leads us to a series of related questions, such as: How is trust defined in the context of government and public services? When we speak of trust and trustworthiness, does this imply a relationship between individuals, institutions or both? Trust and confidence in government and public services are often used interchangeably, but is trust different from confidence and, if so, how?
