ABSTRACT

CERTAIN objections, logical and metaphysical, might be urged against the soundness of the dialectic. A consideration of these should be of help in appreciating the implications of the dialectic. That the Mādhyamika system, even if logically sound, is nihilistic and is a species of positivism and that it has been sterile in the past and does not hold out any hope for the future are broader philosophical issues. They are dealt with in a subsequent chapter. Objections of a formal or epistemological character against the value of the dialectic as a method of knowledge are considered here.
