ABSTRACT

The report and accounts for 1908 made unhappy reading. The traction expenses were up, because of the increased price of coal and stores, but there was a small saving on traffic costs. The cost of maintenance and repairs had risen from £48,676 to £51,492 but Cater Scott said that showed they were doing their best to keep the track in order even in bad times. He blamed the want of traffic development on bad weather, the unexpectedly poor results of travel to and from the Franco—British Exhibition, and bus competition.
