ABSTRACT
This concluding chapter charts multiple paths for the evolution of digital badges and considers new genres, designs, and purposes for these technologies. As discussed in the previous chapters of Designing Effective Digital Badges, digital badges are still young tools in a young medium and there are many exciting possibilities for their development and use that have not yet become realities. After reviewing research on digital badges, some that is just emerging and other work that is still underexplored, this chapter delves into some of the emerging interdisciplinary possibilities for this medium and speculates about where the digital badges of the future might take us.
