ABSTRACT

Rising Tide describes itself as “a grassroots international network of groups and individuals who take direct action to confront the root causes of climate change and to promote local, communitybased solutions to the climate crisis” (Rising Tide n.d.). Originally formed to organize protests around the November 2000 conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the Hague, Rising Tide currently lists six regional affiliates – North America (US and Canada), UK, Finland, Mexico, Ecuador, and Australia – as well as organizing collectives in several US states and regions.
