ABSTRACT

During the summer of 1938, a school friend told me he was going to Raenford Military Academy in Los Angeles starting in the fall. He showed me the brochure, which was filled with magnificent photos—classrooms, swimming pool, basketball court, cadets mounted on horses, cadets marching, and cadets relaxed and smiling. I was smitten. By the time I finished looking at it, I had made up my mind. I wanted to go too.
