ABSTRACT

59The way thieves learn their illegal profession has frequently been referred to as a tutelage process in which novices are “trained” by their more seasoned companions. Although this description may be an oversimplification, it does set the stage for understanding a similar type of relationship found in the TSD-facility offender workplace. The relationship transcends the simple, teacher-student relationship. It is characterized, by turns, by trust, antagonism, and solicitation. Most important, it serves as the lifeblood of long-lived criminal TSD-facility enterprises.
