ABSTRACT

The case of Sheila White recently reached the U.S. Supreme Court. White was a former forklift operator for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. The Wall Street Journal reported some of the facts of the case:

The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that White had experienced retaliation and that the company’s reinstating her and awarding back pay did not fully address the problem (Lane, 2006b). Because the case “expands the legal rights of millions of workers,” employers will be paying increasing attention to retaliation issues (Lane, 2006a, p. A16).
