ABSTRACT

The liaison officer may be an individual or a group of individuals who have the responsibility to assist players with a range of non-football related concerns. These may involve the player’s immediate family and can have a significant impact on how well a player settles into a new environment, deals with a change in circumstance and handles specific unforeseen problems. The formal duties of a typical liaison officer will be discussed in this chapter. We will examine how their role can assist the performance of the player, and consider how this work can relate to that of the sport psychologist.
