ABSTRACT

The earlier chapters internally explored the Bloomington School providing an indepth overview of several of its foundational themes. This chapter adopts a different strategy. It explores the key elements of the School within the thematic and intellectual context that dominates the academic environment relevant for its evolution. Consequently, this chapter will shift the focus from the in-depth discussion of the arguments and views expressed by the key authors of the Bloomington School to a birds-eye-view of its intellectual setting. That is to say, it will use an indirect approach that employs as reference points a set of controversial themes in social sciences which help us put in clearer perspective the nature and relevance of the approach developed by the Bloomington scholars.
