ABSTRACT
It is now universally accepted that unwanted and intrusive sound is a common environmental problem and one that can be alleviated to a large extent by paying special attention to the acoustic design and construction of buildings. It is also possible, by using a wide range of techniques, to improve considerably the acoustic performance and sound insulation of elements in existing buildings when refurbishment and alteration work are carried out.
