ABSTRACT

A highly effective means of improving the interior of an existing building as part of any refurbishment scheme, even in ‘low-key’ refurbishments, is to upgrade its internal surfaces. If the existing surfaces are in good condition, the necessary upgrading might only involve providing a new coat of paint, or wall covering. On the other hand, in older buildings, and particularly those that have been neglected and/or disused for long periods, the existing surfaces may be in such poor condition that they need to be completely replaced. Where existing surfaces need to be upgraded, it will usually be the walls that involve most work, the upgrading of ceilings and floors tending to be less complicated.
