ABSTRACT

This part outlines the historical development of the conservation movement and its philosophies, together with a consideration of international charters and current legislation. However, it must be borne in mind that not only does legislation vary from country to country, even within the United Kingdom, but it is also being continually changed and updated as part of a continuum of development as attitudes and philosophy changes. It is therefore the duty of professionals working in this field to keep up to date with changes. As such, this book can only offer an outline of what can be a complex and detailed subject. The reader will be directed to appropriate additional reading material.
