ABSTRACT
The comparison of Donizetti to Bellini has always been a temptation among scholars. This article looks at attempts to make comparisons between the two on a much deeper level, that of human passion, and superhuman deliriums. The issues essayed include the separation of the divine and the human, passion and destructive love, the martyr queen, and others.
