Not every extension to a domestic property requires building control approval because like the Planning Department, Building Control do not wish to be flooded by hundreds of very minor applications that would be unlikely to create any major problems. The types of exempt work most likely to be encountered when dealing

with domestic alterations and improvements are as follows:

(a) porches (b) conservatories (under 30m2 of floor area) (c) covered ways open on at least two sides (under 30m2 of floor area) (d) car ports open on at least two sides (under 30m2 of floor area).
