ABSTRACT

Inevitably, nearly everyone in an organisation is, at some point, in the business of assessment of others. Many senior staff and all HR professionals are in the business of selection. Most managers, even supervisors, are required to assess their staff regularly using appraisal systems. Nearly all managers, particularly at more senior levels, are mandated with development and training responsibilities, which involve assessment. And even the “lowliest of staff” are now frequently required to assess (rate) their boss in 360˚ feedback exercises.
