“Through years of involvement in both public art and children’s art education, I have come to realize the power of children’s books to engage young readers and help them develop a passion for art and literature. Both have the potential to help students grasp the importance of having a creative inner life, through imaginative storytelling and vibrant illustration. Though I was mainly trained as a visual artist, I am currently in the process of writing and illustrating several works for children which focus on the experience of inner city youth as well as the rich variety of contemporary urban existence.”
