ABSTRACT

The scouts might be right, being prepared is the secret to survival for a leader. Call it homework or preparation or anything you want that implies to you, the leader is ready. The toga parties are fun but few leadership positions have the luxury of getting by on social skills. Leadership means gathering data, listening to others, examining the options and then, finally, making a decision. Leadership’s job is communicating to all audiences, and the press needs to be a part of the communication process. Leaders need to understand what is going on around them which almost always means understanding some of the details involved in any situation. Knowing how to balance the big picture with the details is the key. Using ambiguous but positive adjectives only goes so far. The Trump descriptors like “huge, perfect, big, beautiful” are not always helpful.
