ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the diversity of movement within and between places. I will show how the migrant process can no longer assume that immigrants become incorporated into host society; their activity shows up a highly complex range of activities and identities. It is a process whereby migrants through their daily activities and social, economic, and political relations create social fields that cross boundaries. The chapter presents some diasporic feelings emanating from social media. Later, it illustrates trans-national business ties between desh (home country) and bidesh (abroad). This chapter asks a critical question: if life is a journey for the immigrants, how does travel mark one’s belonging? I will argue that the answers are complex, involving consideration of a variety of factors that are fluid and in flux.
