ABSTRACT
My early experiences in psychology were dominated by behaviourism, which had continued to prevail at Auckland. Psychology was more about rats, then pigeons, than about people. I collaborated briefly with Ivan Beale on a behavioural study of mirror-image discriminations in pigeons, incorporating an element of neuroscience, but after two years in Auckland I was invited back to McGill. This offered better opportunities for research, so I accepted.
