ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on specific steps a director can take to create a positive environment where theatre collaboration can flourish. Safety, respect, positive attitude, free flow of ideas, and productivity in the theatre are identified as characteristics of such an environment. Support for and clarity of these characteristics are provided by the author’s personal examples and case studies as well as quotes from a team of professional theatre directors consulted for this project. The chapter ends with activities for self-reflection for the student’s personal and professional growth, leading to the creation of a collaborative theatre environment.
