ABSTRACT

Common across all contextual behavioral approaches is the incorporation of mindfulness, or an emphasis on the present moment in therapy and as a skill for outside of therapy. Perspective-taking is associated with greater resilience, self-compassion, and improved interpersonal relating. Techniques to introduce mindfulness and perspective-taking, particularly through the use of the therapeutic relationship, are described, and each chapter following through Chapter 9 will build on the vignettes introduced in this chapter.
