ABSTRACT

This chapter examines elements from both techniques and shows that if they are viewed as complementary, the results of combined analysis will be more beneficial than separate applications. The integration of channel mapping and simulation modeling can provide more complete information about alternative strategies and so help avoid the pitfalls of sudden comprehensive changes. The chapter outlines the distinction between life support systems and life fulfillment systems and describes how this distinction can facilitate application of the complementary techniques of channel mapping and simulation modeling. The essential gain from the integration of channel mapping and simulation modeling techniques is that it will provide a comprehensive system for development planning. DIOSIM modeling begins with the identification of the major data inputs to the model. Information flows along the path to produce a determination of what sectors to map and what data is necessary for the parameterization of DIOSIM.
