ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 introduces the use of the AMP, an anger management plan, which this and following chapters fully delineate. Concepts and tools introduced in the first five chapters are now applied to anger. Understanding of self-talk is further refined. Parallels with preschoolers’ struggles with individuation illuminate teen temper tantrums. Following nature’s design yields solutions for anger management in alliance with the teen. Anger is accepted while firm limits are set on behavior. Strategies for assertiveness coupled with peacemaking address anger while de-escalating it. Assisting teens in seeing how they are victimized by their own anger moves regulation of anger into the realm of acting in healthy self-interest. Five activities are recommended and include details on how to construct an anger management plan. The activity sheet is Format of an Anger Management Plan, which begins the anger management plan process.
