ABSTRACT

In the epilogue, I offer my perspectives on the future of crowdfunding. As the crowdfunding market grows bigger, there could be a divergence between platforms for businesses with scale and those for smaller campaigns that becomes more explicit. On the one hand, equity-based crowdfunding platforms, like CrowdCube and CircleUp, and some related platforms provide a clear offering for business fundraising and investing. On the other hand, crowdfunding will be increasingly atomized, with niche platforms serving specific domains of interest. For example, Seed&Spark, designed specifically for filmmakers, combines a subscription-based crowdfunding model with a streaming service. Betabrand operates as a crowdfunded retail service for supporting fashion designers. Crowdfunding will be also expand by converging with different players, domains, and technologies.
