ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on workplace spirituality. It describes spiritual need as a human need. It outlines that spiritual need fulfillment or spirituality involves going beyond oneself, going beyond one’s material self-interests, and connecting and contributing to others. It describes workplace spirituality as employee experiences of spiritual need fulfillment or spirituality in the workplace. It explores the dimensions of workplace spirituality and points out that the experiences of meaning in work and community at work are the two main dimensions of employee experiences of workplace spirituality. It then outlines some outcomes of workplace spirituality related to employee performance and well-being. It examines some of the ways of enhancing employee experiences of workplace spirituality. It provides an exercise at the end of the chapter to facilitate assessment of workplace spirituality in an actual organization and also to facilitate reflection on the possible actions for enhancing employee experiences of workplace spirituality in an actual organization.
