ABSTRACT

As the world becomes increasingly diverse and more closely connected through media, mobility, economic interdependence, and the internet, the stories we are exposed to increase in number and kind. To understand others who are different from us, it becomes necessary to listen closely to their stories. Telling and retelling our stories can be transformative. By telling and writing, looking back, reinterpreting and retelling, we can sometimes reframe our lives in ways that are easier to bear. Looking overwhelmed and dazed after reading the long syllabus and hearing the numerous reading and writing assignments, the students grab their books and quickly leave class.
