ABSTRACT

We make sense of the world through conceptual frameworks, and philosophy is tasked with developing and critiquing these conceptual frameworks. Thinkers on money have often conceptualized money, as an object in the world “out there”. Thus, they think of philosophy of money as tasked with mirroring monetary reality. But is money an object like a coin or a piece of paper or is it a conceptual construct? If it is a conceptual construct, what is the role of a philosophy of money or monetary value?
