ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the creativity increases unethical behaviour. It provides how creativity can be prompted in people with an influence on their ethical behaviour. Creative people are celebrated across professional fields as leaders and change-makers who have the courage, discipline, and vision to challenge old practices and invent something new. In one study, F. Gino and D. Ariely researched employees in an advertising agency to explore whether there is a relationship between creativity and dishonesty. The findings showed that self-reported dishonesty was connected to creativity required on the job. The relationship was particularly strong when creativity was assessed by managers. Current research has been carried out in situations where the participants have had an incentive to be dishonest. Also, creativity is always rare in organisations and even when it is, it may not be celebrated or perceived as something rare, which means that the link to unethical behaviour may disappear.
