ABSTRACT

This chapter explores a variety of Science, Technology & Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) enhancement and enrichment activities at different scales of implementation. It considers two individual countries, America and England, and describes developments that are taking place. The chapter considers some of the evaluations of enhancement and enrichment activities in England. It begins by considering three enhancement and enrichment initiatives that are global in scale and discusses their nature and intentions: FIRST Lego League, F1 in Schools, and iGEM Competition. The chapter discusses seven STEM enhancement and enrichment activities: British science week, the Big Bang, engaging with STEM Ambassadors, TeenTech, the CREST Award scheme, Nuffield Research Placements, and the work of a single teacher who has developed a wide range of such activities.
