ABSTRACT
This part gives accounts of other insurgencies over the following 3 centuries (1648-early 1960s) by nationalist movements struggling for independence from European powers. Three failed, and the majority succeeded. Each insurgency is compared with that of the Dutch Revolt and analyses the reasons for success (or, in 3 cases, the failure), and emphasises the 4 factors essential for success.
