ABSTRACT
Mr Leach 1 has shown that pre-Reformation Elementary Schools were swept away by the Chantries Act as readily as Grammar Schools. The number of schools mentioned in the documents regarding the dissolution is 259. Of these 213 according to Mr Leach’s reckoning were Grammar Schools. The Elementary Schools, Mr Leach puts at 45.
