ABSTRACT

This chapter summarises the process of constructing the Spoken British National Corpus 2014 (Spoken BNC2014), a new resource for research and teaching on the contemporary English language. After summarising the various challenges and successes of the project, future directions are discussed, including new projects which aim to add further value to the corpus, in the areas of sociolinguistics and register studies, for example. Finally, the chapter reflects on the value of collaborative, cross-industry research and mentions some of the academic research on the corpus that was conducted within the first year of it being made available.
