ABSTRACT

In this chapter we unpack some of the skills involved in critical community psychology, which cross over and are integrated with the action strategies and processes covered in Part 2. Our honest engagement with the project work undertaken has often demonstrated issues and problems which have required us to reflect, develop and change. These reflections upon learning are essential for value based community psychology work. The chapter is organised around, first, a discussion of what we mean by capability (rather than competencies), followed by an explicit consideration of the roles and skills often utilised in community psychology. Finally, we review what reflection on learning and practice can offer.
