ABSTRACT

This approach appeals to me essentially because of the relational stance it takes. It places the affective relationship between client and therapist at the heart of the therapeutic endeavour, where the purpose is seen to be the structural change in the client’s self-organisation. The client, because of developmental deficit, has an incomplete self-organisation: he has not been able to develop a differentiated, individual sense of self or/and a certainty that his affective state is legitimate.
