ABSTRACT

From the very beginning of analysis, Rachel used her artistic talents to discover her internal source of anguish, work through her mourning, and achieve better self-integration. The chapter summarises her development and growth through the various phases of analysis, as portrayed through her creative activity. Her creative activity was a tool that facilitated therapy, and, at the same time, reflected the changes that occurred in her personality. Rachel believed that her fear of fragmentation of body and soul might have been transmitted through the "tunnel of generations". Although terrified by the idea, she realised that she must pass through this tunnel and uncover the details of her mother's past. Rachel's paintings reflect the movement from fragmentation, death, and destruction to life, wholeness, and aesthetics. The mitigation of Rachel's hatred enabled her to better control her aggressive impulses, those directed at herself as well as those directed at primary objects.
