ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates two examples to answer whether if it makes sense to make sense of a life? Sam is entering middle age, and he spends his time at work he hates. Carrie and Sam have trouble fitting themselves into a form that works in real living. They try to exceed the pinch of natural limits, only to be thrown back and become more pinched. Yet little by little Sam is mellowing, opening, even if he is still a fierce warrior. With help, banging his head against internal barriers makes him more compassionate. With Marlene's help, Carrie finds more room for self in private being, as well as on stage. The damaged self needs to be part of a worthwhile dream. Both Carrie and Sam continue to push their edges, but a sense of the materials with which they work gives them pause. A ghastly, indecipherable logic in lives makes people wonder, smile through tears, as they indefatigably tinker around.
