ABSTRACT

FOLK-STORIES are told in the evening round the fire, for amusement, by the women and girls and boys. The men, especially those who have been to Johannesburg, already look upon this form of amusement as childish. In spite of that there is a very rich folk-lore originating from many sources. There are stories of Leŋge, Tʃopi, Ndau, Arab, Indian, and Portuguese origin.
